You can intermittently quickly without doing keto

Combining keto and intermittent fasting - is that possible?

If you've been trying to lose weight recently, chances are you will have heard of the keto diet. But intermittent fasting - also known as interval fasting - is one of the current nutritional trends that you cannot avoid. For example, did you know that even Hugh Jackmann used IF (short for intermittent fasting) to get himself into shape for his role as Wolverine? And this is what his workout looked like.

Both methods work and have been tried and tested, but have completely different approaches and rules. But basically they have the same goal: to lose weight. So it makes sense to simply combine the two forms of nutrition with each other in order to lose weight even faster. We'll tell you how useful the combination of intermittent fasting and keto really is after we've taken a look at the basics and basic rules of the two food trends.

This is how intermittent fasting works

Almost everyone is familiar with the term fasting and knows that it involves strictly abstaining from food for several days or weeks. With intermittent fasting, the fasting phases are much shorter and therefore more suitable for everyday use: With the 16: 8 method (you may also know it under the name of the 8-hour diet) you are only allowed to eat for 8 hours and then fast for 16 hours. So you could have breakfast at 10 a.m. and have finished your dinner by 6 p.m. You can set the time window as you like, depending on whether you like to have breakfast or leave it out anyway.

Intermittent fasting is primarily about the limited amount of time you eat, not about the food itself. In theory, everything that tastes good is allowed, but when you lose weight, your calorie deficit at the end of the day always decides whether and how much you lose weight. Anyone who does not constantly exceed their calorie requirements in the 8 hours and eat more calories than they burn will lose weight naturally with the help of intermittent fasting.

This is how you lose weight on the keto diet

While you limit your food intake to a certain period of time with intermittent fasting, the ketogenic diet is about eating as few carbohydrates as possible. So low carb? No not really. Keto is also known as the no-carb method, because only a maximum of 50 grams of carbohydrates are allowed per day. For comparison: on a low-carb diet, you can eat up to 120 grams a day. Due to the lack of carbohydrates, your metabolism is forced to adjust and switch to what is known as ketosis. This means that your body does not get its energy from carbohydrates (sugar) as usual, but from fat. That is because this is converted into ketone bodies in the liver and then used as an alternative to generate energy. Instead of carbs, keto fans have a lot of protein and plenty of fat on the table - for example in the form of these delicious recipes. Excess body fat is supposed to be broken down without losing muscle mass.

Can you combine keto and intermittent fasting?

In theory this is of course possible, but we would not recommend it to you. Why? There are no scientific studies on this yet and therefore it is completely uncertain how your body reacts when you combine both weight loss strategies. In addition, both types of diet have their own rules that must be observed, especially the keto diet is quite strict and not always easy to stick to. Following one form of diet is exhausting, doing two at the same time is a real challenge and is stressful for your body. Therefore, it can happen, for example, that there is a vitamin or mineral deficiency due to the strict nutritional rules of the ketogenic diet. You are so focused on consuming as few carbs as possible and consuming as much fat and protein that you completely forget to eat enough vegetables. However, it contains numerous healthy ingredients, such as vital vitamins and secondary plant substances, which can even protect you from diseases.

Combining keto and IF means one thing above all: stress for the body and mind. But there is nothing against trying one of the two nutritional strategies if you want to lose a few pounds. The 8-hour diet is easy to integrate into everyday life and therefore easy to stick to. It is also not a "diet" in the classic sense, but a form of nutrition that you can pursue for years without any health risks. Just give it a try. Here we answer all your questions about the 8-hour diet.
