How to use alarm, stopwatch and timer in iOS 9

Since smartphones became more commonplace, many of you have probably given up wearing a watch just to let your phone tell you the time. You can also use your iPhone as an alarm clock, timer, and stopwatch, as well as a large clock.

How to set an alarm

First, we'll show you how to use your iPhone as an alarm clock and save space on your bedside table. To set an alarm, tap the clock app icon on the home screen.

NOTE: Once you've opened the Clock app, the screen that was last active in the app will open, even if you force close the app.

Tap the plus sign in the top right corner of the screen to create a new alarm.

By default, the new alarm is called "Alarm". You can change this by tapping Label, entering a new label, and tapping Back to return to the Add Alarm screen.

You have a wide choice of sound options The alarm sounds and the type of vibration you want. You can even buy more ringtones from the iTunes store to use as an alarm tone or use a song on your phone.

If you'd like the option to snooze a bit beforehand, tap the Snooze slider so it turns green. You will get nine extra minutes of sleep. Unfortunately, the slumber time in the "Uhr" app cannot be adjusted. You need to install and use a third-party app like "Weckerfrei" to change the snooze time.

When you have finished setting up this alarm, tap Save.

The new alarm appears in the list on the Alarms screen. The alarm is activated automatically when you save it. However, you can turn it off by tapping the slider on the right.

If you need to change an existing alarm, tap the Edit button in the top right corner of the screen.

To change the properties of an alarm, tap Anywhere on the alarm you want to change. A screen like the Add Alarm screen appears, except that it is labeled Edit Alarm. Make your changes and tap Back to accept the changes and return to the main Alarms screen.

In edit mode, you can also delete an alarm by tapping the red minus button on the left.

NOTE: You can also swipe left on the alarm when NOT in edit mode to access the Clear button.

When you have finished editing or deleting alarms, tap Done in the upper left corner of the screen.

When one or more alarms are activated, an alarm icon is displayed in the status bar. Only one icon will be displayed regardless of how many alarms are activated.

The Clock app does not have to be open in the foreground for the alarm to sound at the specified time. In addition, the screen does not have to be left on.

Using the stopwatch

To use the stopwatch, tap the stopwatch icon at the bottom of the screen. Tap the Start button to begin timing.

The stopwatch has lap times that allowyou need to stop the stopwatch at certain points and record each time you stop but keep the total running time. An example of using lap times is when you are doing a lap on a track and want to record the time of each lap as well as the total time.

To record a lap, simply tap the lap button.

Each time you tap Lap, the current time is recorded in a list of numbered laps, but the main time continues. To stop the running time, tap Stop.

Press Start again to restart the time from where you left off.

Any lap times you have recorded will still be available until you tap Reset to reset the stopwatch to 0.

Using the timer

You can also set a timer to count down to0 from a certain period of time. Now you don't need a separate timer for your kitchen. To use the timer, tap the Timer icon at the bottom of the screen. Swipe up and down slowly to set the number of hours and minutes to count down. To choose a different tone (ringtone) that indicates when the timer reaches 0, tap When Timer Ends, choose a ringtone from the list, and then tap Set to set the ringtone and go to Return to the main Timer screen.

Tap “Start” to start the countdown.

The remaining time is displayed digitally. You can pause the timer by tapping Pause.

… And tap “Continue” to start again. To stop the timer, tap Cancel.

All three tools will run in the background, even if you force the Clock app or turn off the screen. However, you need to control these tools through the app. They cannot be controlled as widgets in the Notification Center.
