1. Star Wars order sorted according to the release dates of the trilogies / movies

First trilogy 1977-1983: The first trilogy is the three classic episodes with Darth Vader, Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia: "Star Wars - A New Hope", "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi". These three films were released between 1977 and 1983 and started the Star Wars cult. If the episodes are arranged according to the chronology of the plot, they are Episodes IV to VI. According to the chronological order of the plot of the Star Wars films, this trilogy is right in the middle.

Second trilogy 1999-2005: In 1999 the second trilogy continued, which chronologically precedes the first trilogy. These three episodes appeared until 2005: "The Phantom Menace", "Attack of the Clones" and "Revenge of the Sith". Chronologically speaking, these are Episodes I to III. As for the chronological Star Wars order, the saga begins with this trilogy.

Third trilogy 2015-2019: The third trilogy started in 2015, the plot of which is based on the first "classic" trilogy. "The Awakening of Power" was the first part and "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" (started in cinemas in Germany on December 15, 2017) was the second part. On December 18, 2019, the third and final part of this third trilogy was released in German cinemas: "Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker". That ends the Skywalker saga.

The script for the new Star Wars film "The Rise of Skywalker", which started on December 18, 2019, was offered on Ebay. Director J.J. According to Spiegel Online, Abrams revealed that an actor had left the script under his bed. A cleaner found it there and passed it on to someone. This person then put the script for sale on Ebay. But an employee of the film company discovered it and bought it immediately. So it came back to the film team before anyone could bid for it.

Curious - Luke Skywalker also appears again in Star Wars Episode IX. Even though he died in Episode VIII! Skywalker actor Mark Hamill revealed to AP Entertainment how this became possible: Since Skywalker is a Jedi, he can act as a Force Ghost. Skywalker is not the first character to appear in this way; Obi Wan Kenobi and Yoda have already made such appearances as Force Ghosts.

"The Force Awakens", "The Last Jedi" and "The Rise of Skywalker" are episodes VII, VIII and IX in the total Star Wars history. Regarding the Star Wars sequence as far as the course of the plot is concerned, the trilogy that appeared third is also the third trilogy in terms of content.

Fourth trilogy 2023-2026: Starting in 2023, a new movie is to be released every two years. This is then the fourth trilogy already announced by Disney with the episodes X (December 22, 2023). Disney has postponed the theatrical release originally planned for December 16, 2022 due to the corona crisis. Accordingly, the other start dates mentioned so far will also be postponed by one year - here the old, pre-Corona dates: XI (December 20, 2024) and XII (December 18, 2026). The first information has already been leaked. So it continues the Star Wars saga after the third trilogy. In the first episode of the fourth trilogy, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss director. These are the makers of Game of Thrones.

2nd Anthology Films 2016 - ???

The two films "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" (from 2016) and "Solo: A Star Wars Story" (from 2018) do not count producer Lucasfilm and cineastes in the actual classic Star Wars series, but in the so-called anthology series. These anthology films are spin-offs from the actual Star Wars series and are counted separately. These films describe individuals or individual events from the Star Wars cosmos in more detail. Originally the term "anthology" was used for these films inserted between the trilogies, but eventually Disney decided to replace the term anthology with the phrase "A Star Wars Story".

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" takes place before Episode IV from the first trilogy and describes how rebels steal the blueprints of the Death Star. "Solo: A Star Wars Story" tells the story of the young Han Solo - who obviously doesn't want to know too many moviegoers, as you can see from the comparatively low audience figures. Since "Solo: A Star Wars Story" did not earn enough money, the film studio stopped all further Star Wars anthology films.

Another Star Wars movie: Taika Waititi is said to be responsible for the next Star Wars movie and also to write parts of the script. Krysty Wilson-Cairns is also expected to help write the script for this film. Apparently, this is not a part of the fourth trilogy, but a separate movie. Read more about this here.

3. Star Wars order sorted according to the progress of the plot

The chronological plot of the saga starts with the second trilogy which was published between 1999 and 2005:

"The Phantom Menace"

"Attack of the Clone Warriors"

"Revenge of the Sith".

Then the two continued Anthology films the Star Wars story continues:
