New Zealand tax on goods and services

New Zealand Goods and Services Tax (NZ GST) will be added to advertising costs if a NZ GST registration number is not on file.

For companies in New Zealand, Microsoft Advertising is required to charge New Zealand Goods and Services Tax (NZ GST) for advertising services unless you provide your NZ GST registration number. When you provide your NZ GST registration number, Microsoft Advertising charges the NZ GST at a rate of 0%. If you do not provide a NZ GST registration number, Microsoft Advertising is required to charge the NZ GST at a rate of 15%.

Microsoft Advertising cannot provide advice on taxes. If you have any questions, contact your tax advisor or the local tax authorities.

Update your NZ GST registration number

You can provide your NZ GST registration number when you register with Microsoft Advertising and when you create a new account. The registration number will appear on your billing documents.

Otherwise, the method of editing your NZ GST registration number will vary depending on whether you have one or multiple accounts.

  1. In the top menu, select Tools> Settings> Account Settings.
  2. Next to the Account Settings page title, click the pencil icon .
  3. Enter your New Zealand Tax on Goods or Services Registration Number (NZ GST). This is located directly under your business address.
  4. Click on "Save".

How is GST (tax on goods or services) applied to my account?

  • If you are using a late payment account, the GST will be added to the billing limit. For example, if your billing limit is NZ $ 100, your card will be charged NZ $ 115 (NZ $ 100 + 15% GST). (Learn more about the billing limit.)
  • If you have a prepaid account, we will deduct the tax from your balance. For example, if you make a prepayment of NZ $ 100, your account balance will be increased by NZ $ 86.96 and the remainder of the payment will be the tax portion (NZ $ 13.04).
